Multi-sample near-infrared stability analyzer for simultaneous, accelerated characterization of colloidal dispersions, emulsions, foams, and suspensions.
The DataPhysics MultiScan MS 20 uses near-infrared (NIR) transmission and backscattering measurements to simultaneously characterize the stability of up to 6 samples at once. It detects and quantifies instability phenomena — creaming, sedimentation, flocculation, coalescence, and Ostwald ripening — at an early stage without centrifugation.
The DataPhysics MultiScan MS 20 is a multi-sample colloidal stability analyzer that uses near-infrared (NIR) light scattering to non-invasively probe the internal structure and dynamics of opaque liquid dispersions. By scanning each sample vial from bottom to top and measuring both transmitted and backscattered NIR light intensity profiles, the instrument generates a complete spatial picture of the sample at each time point.
Changes in these profiles over time — a decrease in backscattering at the bottom and increase at the top, for example — directly indicate sedimentation or creaming. Localized changes signal flocculation or coalescence. The MultiScan software automatically calculates a Transmission Stability Index (TSI) for each sample, enabling objective, quantitative comparison of formulation stability without subjective visual assessment.
With the ability to measure 6 samples simultaneously at controlled temperatures from 4°C to 60°C, the MultiScan MS 20 dramatically accelerates the formulation development cycle — enabling shelf-life predictions and comparative stability data in hours rather than weeks.
