Portable laser optical emission spectrometer for rapid, accurate elemental analysis of metals and alloys — no sample preparation required.
The QuantoLux QLX9 uses laser-induced optical emission spectroscopy (Laser-OES) to deliver fast, accurate elemental analysis of metals and alloys without any sample preparation. A brief laser pulse ablates a microscopic amount of material, and the resulting plasma emission is analyzed to determine elemental composition in seconds.
The QuantoLux QLX9 is a handheld laser optical emission spectrometer (Laser-OES) that brings laboratory-grade elemental analysis to the production floor, warehouse, and field. Unlike conventional arc-spark OES instruments, the QLX9 requires no conductive sample preparation — the laser pulse works directly on as-is metal surfaces, including oxidized, painted, or corroded samples after minimal surface brushing.
The pulsed Nd:YAG laser delivers a precise, focused pulse to the sample surface, vaporizing a microscopic spot (< 0.5 mm) and generating a short-lived plasma. The emitted light is captured by a CCD spectrometer array that simultaneously measures emission lines across the full UV-visible spectral range, enabling multi-element analysis including carbon — a critical limitation of handheld XRF analyzers.
Results are displayed on a 5" color touchscreen within 5 seconds, with automatic grade matching against a built-in library of over 1000 standard alloy grades. Wi-Fi connectivity enables real-time data transfer to quality management systems for full traceability.
